Work-life Balance

25/10/18 | Advice & Guidance, Business

Work-Life Balance: It can still exist!

When you ARE the business, work life balance might seem like a mythical being – sighted once on a foggy morning many years ago, but never again. In fact, as your own boss you all you WANT to do, sometimes, is to focus on growing your business.

Work life balance doesn’t mean you have to give up on your business targets, in fact a healthy balance will probably mean you’re more productive when you are working.

It’s All About Boundaries

Work Boundaries

Imagine if you lived at an office and work was going on all around you, even when you were trying to watch Game of Thrones or cook an epic fish pie – you’d be constantly distracted, and you’d never switch off. Set yourself boundaries, whether that’s only working during the week, not past 8pm and only in the home office.

Family Boundaries

‘Could you pop down to the shops for me?’ Is a phrase anyone who is their own boss will have heard, because if you work from home, you’re just lounging around right!? Not quite. You’re going to have to put your foot down and set these boundaries, just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you’re not working.

Client Boundaries

Now you’re working for yourself you might be tempted to give in to all of your client’s whims and requests. Changes in their plans might mean you are tempted to work late into the evenings and across the weekend. This is fine every now and again – everyone has crunch times and you’re your own boss after all! But don’t let your clients rule your life.

Gadget Boundaries

I’m not talking about keeping your robot hoover out of the home office, but rather turning off your phone by a certain time – those precious family moments can easily be destroyed by a client with problems that could wait until tomorrow.

Setting boundaries can be the difference between a fulfilling life and a life spent working. To save yourself hours and hours of admin and accounts contact Sidekick to see what we can do for you.
